Pick Up Your Pencil, Ready, Begin

The Gallery Leadership Club is organizing and sponsoring an amazing educational and artistic opportunity at Castilleja!
“Pick Up Your Pencils, Ready, Begin” is an installation masterminded by Harriete Estel Berman. Her academic bell curve created entirely out of used pencils illustrates both the intensity of standardized testing while simultaneously opening the conversation about such testing’s effectiveness.

Harriete’s bell curve will be installed in the Anita Seipp Gallery in March  and after school on March 15, a moderated, student run discussion will be held concerning the pros and cons of standardized testing. Student representatives from across the southern bay area including Priory, Sequoia, Paly, Menlo and Castilleja will attend to have a candid conversation about their personal opinions and views. In addition, it will be videotaped, for Harriete hopes to use this conversation as part of her artistic installation as it tours through museums.

This is an incredible opportunity to have a thought-provoking conversation about a current issue with students around your area and additionally to participate in a video that will be seen by countless other audiences. What you have to say about Standardized testing is important, and this could be your chance to express those opinions in an effective way.

Pizza will be served afterwards for all who attend! The conversation will last no longer than an hour and a half.
