Summer 2012 Internships


About Us

Ignite builds political ambition in young women.  We deliver programs in high schools and colleges that provide political and civic education, exposure to women in political leadership, hands on training opportunities and a peer network of women who support and nurture each other’s aspirations. Ignite has a national vision: to build a movement of young women across the United States who are civically and politically and engaged and who ultimately pursue a life of civic and political leadership.  We currently operate in California and Texas.


General Responsibilities

  • Daily duties will vary and may include (but not limited to):
    • Administrative tasks such as filing, scanning and data entry
    • General Nonprofit Management
    • Curricular Development
    • Event Planning


Fundraising Specific Duties

  • Production & distribution of the Ignite newsletter
  • Set up new organization fundraising database
  • Get existing fundraising contacts and prospects into database and keep database up to date
  • Assist with all donor communications
  • Help plan and execute fundraising events


Communications/PR Specific Duties  

  • Maintenance of PR Calendar, including media relations, writing press releases & Op-Eds and generally keeping Ignite focused on its organization communication/PR goals
  • Maintenance of Ignite website blog & social media outlets: Facebook, Twitter, & YouTube
  • Using our social media presence to recruit new school sites, teachers, speakers and students
  • Assistance with conference and event planning and staffing



We are looking for dynamic interns who are:

  • Enrolled in a community college or four year college/university
  • Motivated * Self-starters * Sense of Humor
  • Focused * Organized * Good Communicators
  • Ambitious * Dependable * Hard Workers


Highly Recommended:

  • Interest in Politics, Public Policy, Government, Women’s Advocacy
  • Majors: Political Science, Government, Public/Social Policy, Public Administration, Gender & Women’s Studies
  • Previous administrative or nonprofit experience



College credit available



Ignite Office is located on Franklin Street at 17th in Downtown Oakland, accessible by AC Transit and BART (19th Street).
