January 4, 2010 – Kicking off Global Week

Happy new year, and welcome Global Week 2010: Peace and Conflict. To kick off our week, we are joined by Nicholas Kristof. Kristof
is a columnist for the New York Times an esteemed writer and
journalist who has traveled and reported extensively from around the
world. He and his wife, Sheryl WuDunn, also a Times journalist, won a
Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square democracy
movement. Kristof has traveled numerous times to the dangerous Darfur
region to provide coverage of the genocide there, and he won his second
Pulitzer Prize for his Darfur columns. Kristof and WuDunn published
their third book this fall to great acclaim and sales — Half the Sky
Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. Critics have
compared the potential long-term effect of this important book to that
of Rachel Carson’s classic work, Silent Spring.
