Global Supply Chain Expert Engages Casti Community

Stanford Graduate School of Business Professor and Thoma Professor of Operations, Information and Technology Hau Lee, father of Casti alum Catherine Lee ’05, engaged a very enthusiastic group of listeners at the Lockey House on Wednesday night.  One of the world’s leading experts in supply chain management, Professor Lee used a combination of media images, product images, and charts and graphs to make the very complex topic of the global flow of materials, information, and money seem quite understandable.  A gifted teacher, as well as a renowned scholar, Professor Lee’s humor and ability to contextualize theory with everyday examples allowed the audience to engage with understanding and interest.  Most importantly, Professor Lee’s lecture, video recorded for those were unable to attend due to schedule conflicts, inspired the Castilleja faculty and students headed off to China for the 2012 Investigator Trip to think deeply about the complex economic ties between the United States and China.

Professor Lee spoke generally about the global supply chain and its trend towards a model where corporations have dual manufacturing sites, more specifically about the risks and benefits for American businesses doing business with China, the movement towards innovation occurring in Chinese manufacturing, and the importance of socially responsible manufacturing.  For those of you yet to watch the video, please stop by the ACE Center or keep watch here info about how best to find it.
