ACE Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Roshni Academy and Casti Alum Saima Hasan ’04

In honor of the “official” opening of the ACE Center – which was marked with a champagne toast and ribbon cutting – Castilleja welcomed home alumna Saima Hasan ’04. Saima exemplifies the motto “Women Learning, Women Leading.” Through her own personal prowess as a social entrepreneur and the very mission of the organization she founded, Roshni Academy, Saima closes the loop that began years ago when she experienced her first Global Week Castilleja. Saima shared what she believes to be the connections between the mandate of the ACE Center and her work with Roshni Academy which aims to bright, underprivileged high school girls so they can support themselves through college.

Roshni’s training of 4,000 girls at 13 sites across four states of India parallels Castilleja’s vision to create women leaders who will shape the way societies develop in the 21st century. Roshni is poised to do just that. Roshni was recently appointed by the Supreme Court of India to National Panel (one of 4 NGO’s selected in the country) to provide guidance to state governments regarding education and livelihood policies for victims of trafficking and their children. As a result, Roshni’s curriculum will reach over 1 million women across 8 states over the next five years. Roshni was recently awarded the SKOCH National Digital Inclusion Award, the highest independent honor in India for “the best application of Information Communication Technology in the Education Sector.” As a result of her vision and her ability to implement that vision Saima has been invited to consult with former Presidents of India, Education Minister of India, and the Congress Party Leader.

More than 50 parents and faculty came to the opening ceremony to learn more about the work of the ACE Center and celebrate the latest innovation at Castilleja!
